The ever-dynamic Shamar Moreland is joining the Bay Area Panthers for the 2025 Indoor Football League campaign. Moreland—standing at six-feet even—is a versatile athlete, possessing experience both as a tailback and defensive back.
In 2024, Moreland competed for the IFL’s Northern Arizona Wranglers under Les Moss, who is now the Panthers’ offensive line coach/AHC. While playing for the Wranglers, Moreland registered nine appearances and collected three interceptions. In a game against the San Antonio Gunslingers, he notched a 29-yard pick six.
Before landing in the IFL, Moreland was invited to rookie mini camp by the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League.
Collegiately, Moreland saw action over four seasons at Ottawa University-Arizona (2018-2021). He was a strong contributor for the Spirit, making plays all over the gridiron.
Moreland’s best year at OUAZ came in 2021 when he was awarded Sooner Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors. In eight contests, Moreland produced over 1,700 all-purpose yards to go along with 16 touchdowns. He also earned accolades for his brilliance in the return game, which netted four of those aforementioned scores.
As one of the top NAIA products of the current decade, Moreland originally hails from Phoenix. For his prep ball, he played at Betty H. Fairfax High School in Laveen, AZ. He starred on offense, defense and special teams (in addition to track & field) for the Stampede, garnering All-State honors as a returner.
Bay Area Head Coach Rob Keefe is thrilled to have Moreland on the Panthers, stating, “Shamar possesses a variety of traits, with size, strength and speed that make him a force as a defensive back. He is built like a running back and tackles like a safety and has the ball skills of a cornerback.”
In one facet or another, expect Moreland to help the Panthers stack wins in 2025. Away from the game, he works as a substitute teacher while coaching sports. He enjoys videos games, spending time with family and playing with his dog.
