Tyler Watson returns to the Bay Area Panthers in 2025 after a phenomenal rookie campaign. Last year, he was an integral member of the Panthers’ defensive backfield, displaying both talent and toughness.
In 2024, Watson collected 21 pass breakups, which was the Indoor Football League’s top mark. Playing with a great understanding of Bay Area Head Coach Rob Keefe’s defense, the 5-foot-11 Watson also logged two interceptions and 68 tackles. His efforts earned him a spot on the 2024 IFL All-Rookie Team.
Watson has natural gridiron instincts and a nose for the football. He is a well-practiced defensive back, having competed collegiately at East Stroudsburg University for five seasons (2017-2022) while studying Sports Management.
For the Warriors, Watson was a defensive standout. He was twice designated to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference team (2021, 2022). In total, he compiled nine interceptions, two forced fumbles and 163 tackles at ESU. On two separate occasions, he produced 13 total tackles in a single game.
When Coach Keefe was asked last October for his thoughts on Watson re-signing with the Panthers, he beamed, “We are excited to have the opportunity to work with Tyler again. He's an athletic, instinctual defender that is always around the football.
“[Watson’s] play recognition is top-tier as he can succeed in all man and zone concepts, and he has proven to be a solid tackler and one who doesn't shy away from covering all wideouts,” Coach Keefe continued.
Originally, Watson is a native of Warrington, PA wherein he graduated from Central Bucks South High School. On the gridiron, Watson played both ways for the Titans, showcasing high-end athleticism at tailback and safety. He also dazzled on the diamond, lettering in baseball while garnering all-conference honors in center field.
In his free time, Watson enjoys bowling, fishing and coaching prep football. He lists helping children achieve athletic goals as his top career goal. With that, look for Watson to continue flying around the secondary at San Jose’s SAP Center this summer.
"I'm coming back to go to the playoffs and finish what we started. Especially with Coach Keefe, we should be in the championship game every year and competing for a championship in the IFL,” proclaimed Watson upon re-signing with Bay Area.
