The Bay Area Panthers have landed another versatile athlete in Landry Mavungu. The 6-foot-1 defensive back is signing with the Panthers for the 2025 Indoor Football League season. He brings a dynamic skill set and an ultra-competitive pedigree.
Collegiately, Mavungu starred on the gridiron for the University of Indianapolis from 2018 to 2023. Throughout his career playing for the Greyhounds, he compiled 112 total tackles, 25 passes defended, four interceptions and one forced fumble. He was also a three-time first-team Great Lakes Valley Conference selection.
Mavungu was especially dominant in 2023. As a senior at UIndy, he made 51 tackles while logging eight passes defended with two interceptions. From there, he added one quarterback sack. Overall, Mavungu’s efforts earned him the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year award along with Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-American Honorable Mention accolades.
Mavungu also displayed prowess on special teams for the Greyhounds. Back in October of 2023, he was named Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a blocked field goal against Truman State for an 82-yard touchdown (which was his lone college score).
After graduating from UIndy with a degree in Business Management and four Academic All-GLVC distinctions, Mavungu’s on-field talents at cornerback attracted NFL interest. Ultimately, he elected to sign with Bay Area wherein he’ll fit brilliantly with Panthers Head Coach Rob Keefe’s defensive scheme.
Prior to college, Mavungu was a star athlete at Normal Community High School in his hometown of Normal, IL. He lettered in football, basketball and track & field for the Ironmen. On the gridiron, Mavungu was labeled All-District en route to a Big-12 league championship and state playoff appearance.
Mavungu is not the only defensive back from Normal Community HS on Bay Area’s 2025 roster. Fellow-Ironman Franky West, Jr. will also suit up for the Panthers this season.
In 2024, Mavungu obtained a Masters degree from UIndy in Science Management.
