Quarterback Liam Thompson is officially signing with the Bay Area Panthers for his rookie Indoor Football League campaign. The 6-foot-1 Thompson comes to the Panthers fresh out of college.
Hailing from the state of Indiana, Thompson stayed nearby to compete collegiately for Wabash College in Crawfordsville. Thompson—a four-year starter for the Little Giants—passed for over 2,100 yards every season.
In all, he produced 11,149 yards through the air behind a lifetime 65.2% completion clip while showcasing a career 102-30 TD-INT ratio; he also added 31 touchdowns with his legs. When graduation day came around for Thompson at Wabash, the three-time NCAC Player of the Year left school with a degree in Rhetoric.
Panthers Head Coach Rob Keefe is absolutely thrilled at the news of Thompson’s arrival in the IFL. “We are pleased to bring Liam to the Bay Area. He is an athletic, confident quarterback who has dynamic physical tools,” boasted Coach Keefe back in January. “[Thompson] is also an explosive running threat,” Keefe asserted.
Thompson certainly has high-end arm talent, but his mobility is especially impressive. Over his 2023 campaign at Wabash, he ran for 724 yards and 10 scores. His longest rush netted 59 yards, as he possesses speed seldom seen in signal callers. Upon year’s end, Thompson was named as a Campbell Trophy finalist, to the Manning Award watch list and to the 2024 East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 preliminary roster. He followed with an invitation to mini camp with the NFL’s New York Giants.
A native of Indianapolis, Thompson played football and basketball at North Central High School, earning six varsity letters in total. He guided the North Central Panthers to a section title while garnering All-Metropolitan and All-State honors. Additionally, he set the school’s record for most passing yards.
“[Bay Area’s] coaches have a clear vision, not only for me but for the team and what they're looking to accomplish. With the level of experience the coaches bring and the goals they have, it motivated me, and I'm fired up to be a part of what they're doing,” Thompson expressed earlier in 2025.
Away from the game, Thompson’s interests include fishing, golfing and the pharmaceutical industry. Throughout Thompson’s rookie IFL season, look for him as QB2 behind Panthers starting quarterback Josh Jones.
