Panthers crush NAZ 47-13

Jackson stuffs stat sheet in win

Nih Jackson may have set the standard for scoring variety in the Bay Area Panthers 47-13 rout of the defending champion Northern Arizona Wranglers at the SAP Center.

Jackson scored a receiving touchdown, returned an onside kick for a score, recovered a fumble for a touchdown and tackled a Wranglers' kick returner in the end zone for one-point rouge.

"He's special," said Head Coach and General Manager Darren Arbet.  "That first workout, he came in and was making plays.  That's just what he does.  That guy's a playmaker and a heck of a football player."

The Panthers scored first on Justin Rankin's 19-yard run, taking a pitch from Dalton Sneed and started left before reversing his field.  Sneed provided the final block along the right wall as Rankin scored his fifth rushing touchdown of the season.

Sneed snapped a 6-6 tie with an 18-yard run with 9:57 left in the second for a 13-7 advantage.

Jackson started his stat stuffing in the final minute of the half with a 28-yard scoring pass from Sneed as Bay Area took a 20-6 lead at the break.

Special teams put the game away in the second half.  Early in the third period, Malik Dorton blocked Brandon Fischer's field goal try.  The Panthers capitalized on Rankin's 1-yard run and after Sawyer Petre's PAT try hit the upright, it was 26-6.

On the ensuing kickoff, Jackson tackled NAZ's Andre Williams in the end zone for a one-point rouge.

The Wranglers coughed it up on the next play when Tevaughn Grant and Wes Bowers forced a Jarrod Ware fumble and JR Stevens recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown.

Northern Arizona cut the deficit to 34-13 in the fourth on Garrett Kettle's 40-yard TD pass to Remaud Chiaokhio-Bowman.

But the Panthers' special teams had an answer when Jackson recovered Fischer's onside kick and waltzed across the goal line to the lead.

Jackson struck again when Williams fumbled the kickoff and Jackson fielded the bounce in the end zone for this third TD of the night and second on special teams.

On his busy night, Jackson said, "I empty the gas tank every time but we get out days off to recover so I've got to get myself ready to go again."

Rankin finished with 46 yards on eight carries with two scores.  Sneed was 8-13 passing for 82 yards with 1 TD passing and another on the ground.

The defense held the Wranglers to the second fewest points allowed in an IFL game this season.  The Panthers gave up only 1-6 on third downs and scored 14 points off turnovers.

The Panthers face San Diego on the road next Sunday while Northern Arizona travels to Vegas for the second of three straight on the road.
