DB Tevin Homer Brings Championship Pedigree to the Panthers

Defensive back Tevin Homer is both a jewelry collector and football player.  Performing at a high level has brought Homer two championship rings.  He heads to the Bay Area in pursuit of another title after signing with the Panthers.

Homer was part of the turnaround in Northern Arizona with the Wranglers winning the IFL Championship one season after winning only one game.   The defensive coordinator was Rob Keefe, who now calls the defense for the Panthers.

"He's going to make sure you're prepared.  The players should know what they're doing all the time," said Homer.  "I've played with coaches who don't break down the film like he does.  He knows exactly what they're doing on what part of the field they're doing it.  He really breaks down everything.  He's the analytics guy and the coach."

After stints with Washington in the NFL and Winnipeg in the CFL, Homer persisted and joined forces with Keefe in Albany of the Arena Football League and won his first championship ring in 2019 and was named All-Arena.

As he prepares to head West, Homer sees the potential for another worst-to-first transformation.  Ex-Wranglers linebacker Darren Hungerford and defensive back Trae Meadows have already committed to the Panthers, getting a jumpstart on building team chemistry.

"That's a huge edge.  We already know how each other plays," said Homer.  "We don't have to learn each others' game with how we move and how we play off each other.  That's a big deal. "

General Manager and Head Coach Darren Arbet appreciates Homer's skill set and envisions him being a key piece of the defensive backfield.

"I really like Tevin Homer.  He has NFL experience, CFL experience and Arena League experience," said Arbet.  "He's a winner and he's a smart DB who tackles well.  He's physical and the biggest thing is that he knows Coach Keefe's system."

In high school and in college at Florida Atlantic (13 career games), there weren't many opportunities to shine.  Homer's development as a pro is credited to continuing the grind.

"It was just about trying to keep playing and when I got to Albany, I played well," said Homer.  "Then I became more comfortable and the game became a lot easier to play.  I just needed to put in the reps to catch up.   know the game a lot better now and I'm a much better player."
