Panther Sign Wide Receiver Jalen Martin

The Panthers added another playmaker with the signing of wide receiver Jalen Martin.

Martin comes to Bay Area after finishing his collegiate career at Pittsburg State.  He previously spent four years at Iowa State where he earned his undergraduate degree.

"We're very excited about having Jalen on our team" said Head Coach Darren Arbet.  "He's very athletic with strong hands.  We're getting a guy who's very physical and can block down field."

Although just out college, Martin already has some "next level" experience after attending rookie minicamp for the Detroit Lions.

"I think it was a real good opportunity for me to understand this is where I belong—to be a professional," said Martin.  "I had a lot of fun, competed and just did my best.  I learned a lot from film study in the short amount of time. "

At Pittsburg State as a senior, Martin led the team with 54 catches for 836 yards and 5 touchdowns.

The Detroit native explained how his connection to the IFL came about and what convinced him to take his talents to the West Coast.

"Coach Rob (Keefe) called and told me all about the program and did a phenomenal job of breaking down the ins and out of what they do," said Martin.  "I like what he said about trying to help me move up and that they are out for the best interest of the players.  That's not true everywhere."

Martin was a three-time All-Conference player at Chandler Park Academy and First-Team All-State Division 4 selection by the Detroit News as a senior in 2015, making 67 catches for 1,147 yards and 16 touchdowns.  The multi-sport standout was an all-state performer in football, basketball and track and field.

"It's like I'm beginning a new era for me in football," said Martin.  "It's an adjustment and the film study is going to pay off.  Lucky for me, I take adjustment very well."
